Government Eases English & Maths Requirements for 19+ Apprentices
The Department for Education announced on 11th February 2025 that apprentices aged 19+ will no longer be required to complete English and maths Functional Skills. This change, effective immediately, removes a key barrier to apprenticeship completion.
At Lighthouse, we see this as a positive step forward however, remain committed to supporting learners who wish to complete Functional Skills. Existing apprentices previously required to take these qualifications can now proceed to their End Point Assessment without them, subject to employer support.

The purpose of the Learning and Skills Mentor apprenticeship is to learn to support individuals and groups with their learning and development towards agreed goals. They will work collaboratively with any level of seniority in their organisation and sector to inclusively meet the individual needs of the employee and business.
